The Herren 2 “Wild Bees” finally returned to the confines of its home court at Hardtwaldhalle this weekend with a 75-59 victory over USC Heidelberg 4. The “Wild Bees” started out slow in the first quarter and only had a 10 point output to Heidelberg’s 16, but then the defensive swarm of the “Wild Bees” started and they held Heidelberg to just 15 while producing 24 to take a 34-31 lead at halftime. The swarm did not let up after that and started to lengthen the lead with the third quarter ending at 53-42. “We worked hard at our practice this past week to contain our opponents and produce point ourselves to build leads and not let teams come back on us” stated Coach Wicks. “We made adjustments in our offense and defense that worked to our advantage and allowed players to see better openings to score. We are working better as a unit and every player is seeing our game from a different viewpoint that works for them.” Going into the fourth quarter the “Wild Bees” maintained their defensive composure not to let Heidelberg back into the game and score points also. “We are seeing that as a unit we can win and we have reached that stage of learning’. There is still more we have to complete and that comes with hard and a dedication to win as a team. The team is looking forward to its next game against Mannheim 3 at GBG Halle next weekend and hopes to continue to improve in its growth. There is a saying “there’s no place like home” and the team was happy to bring home a victory.
